This communal exploration invites everyone—naturalists, scientists, dog walkers, and the curious public—to connect with their environment, capture the beauty of wild plants, animals, insects, and mushrooms using iNaturalist, and become part of the City Nature Challenge 2024 in Saskatoon!

The primary goal is to collectively record as many species as possible within this designated time and location. It’s not just a scientific endeavor; it’s an excuse to meet like-minded individuals in the great outdoors and have a lot of fun!

Saskatoon aspires to claim the title of the most biodiverse city, and we need your enthusiastic participation. Join us from April 26 to April 29, 2024, for the observation stage—snap pictures of wild plants and animals. Then, from April 30 to May 5, 2024, engage in the identification phase as we unveil the discovered species. The grand reveal of results is scheduled for Monday, May 6, 2024.

If you wish, later, contribute to the identification process, helping unveil the rich biodiversity in Saskatoon and the surrounding areas. Whether you’re an experienced naturalist or simply enjoy strolling with your dog, everyone is welcome to join. It’s easy, enjoyable, and a fantastic reason to explore the outdoors.

Your assistance is crucial in showcasing the natural beauty of the City of Saskatoon and supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Take action locally for Sustainable Development Goal 15 (Life on Land), Sustainable Development Goal 14 (Life Under Water). By documenting species at risk, engaging in early detection of invasive species, and recording biodiversity, you play a vital role in contributing to global knowledge and enriching the understanding of Sustainable Development Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).

Experience the way artificial intelligence provides suggestions about the species you encounter—making your outdoor connection with nature even more exciting!

Join us in making the City Nature Challenge 2024 a captivating fusion of art and science, showcasing Saskatoon’s natural splendor like never before! 🎨🌳 #CNCYXE2024 #AIArtNature
