The Volya Ukrainian Dance Ensemble of Edmonton and the Pavlychenko Folklorique Ensemble of Saskatoon are proud to present their new collaborative production “Душа Народу – The Spirit of a Nation”.
Душа Народу is a Canadian production which proudly displays its Ukrainian roots. Led by artistic directors Zhenia Bahri (Volya) and Serhij Koroliuk (PFE), the show aims to move audiences in Alberta and Saskatchewan through the art that is Ukrainian Dance.
The co-production aims to create an immersive timeline, starting with the foundation of Kyiv, leading in to how Ukrainian culture came to Canada, and the development of the unique Ukrainian-Canadian identity. The first act will portray the foundation of Ukraine and how Ukrainians established themselves and their traditions in their homeland. The second act will follow the journey of how Ukrainian culture came to Canada, and how it is celebrated here today. Over 50 dancers from both ensembles will grace the stage to perform traditional and modern dances, as well as joint numbers that have been prepared specifically for this show.
While the war continues on in our beloved Ukraine, The Spirit of a Nation celebrates the strength, resilience, and courage of the Ukrainian people. Душа Народу translates to “soul of the people”; the soul of the Ukrainian people will never be diminished or destroyed, as has been proven time and time again throughout our history. We will always fight for the preservation of our language, culture, and traditions.
Please join these two dynamic ensembles on an authentic and inspiring journey through the history of Ukrainian-Canadian history and identity. With powerful and intricate choreography combined with passionate and talented performers, this is not a show to be missed!
