Youth BRIDGES

Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan (MCoS), Regina Open Door Society (RODS), Newo Yotina Friendship Centre, Street Culture Project, and Rainbow Youth Centre are hosting Intercultural Poetry facilitated by Peace Akintade & Janell Pewapsconias.

Peace Akintade is an African Canadian Poet, Public Speaker, and Thespian residing in Saskatoon. Saskatchewan Youth Poet Laurate, Co-coordinator of Write Out Loud, a Saskatoon-based Youth Poetry Community. Her poetry style of personalization and lyrical expression touch on the impact of slavery in her village, colorism, growing up in Kuwait, Nigeria, and Canada, and relearning her culture in the face of colonization.

Janelle Pewapsconias aka ecoaborijanelle is a nehīyaw iskewew (she/her) from Little Pine First Nation. As a single mother and Indigenous artist, she continues oral tradition through the arts and spoken word poetry. Her unique spoken word poetry style has been performed from east to west coast, sharing stories of connection to this land. ecoaborijanelle speaks from the experience of an Indigenous woman but reminds everyone that her perspective does not represent all Indigenous people to Turtle Island.
