The Office of the Treaty Commissioner (OTC) and the Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan (MCoS) partner to present the Leading Together: Healing the Past – Empowering the Future Award.

The Sarkar Family Foundation donated funds to MCoS to launch and maintain an award that recognizes work with measurable long-term impact towards reconciliation. Recipients will demonstrate long-term commitment to fostering understanding, healing, and collaboration between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, to honouring the spirit and intent of treaties, and to uplifting Indigenous Peoples. The work the Leading Together Award will honour may relate to issues and/or areas of activity including land, education, anti-racism, MMIWG2SBM, justice, health, social services, economic development, arts, language and culture, etc.

Selection will consider active engagement in initiatives that address the legacy of colonization, systemic inequalities, and intergenerational trauma, as well as evidence of efforts that have significantly improved relationships, understanding, and trust between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in Saskatchewan.

Awards will be presented to an organization and an individual at MCoS’ annual awards ceremony where recipients will receive a framed artist print. The awards ceremony will take place at Wanuskewin Heritage Park, Saskatoon on November 21, 2026.

Living Saskatchewan residents are eligible for nomination with the following exceptions:
• Anyone who is currently serving as an MCoS Board member, committee member or staff or an OTC employee, or Speakers’ Bureau member, or has served in the past two (2) years is not eligible
• Any immediate family members of such board members or staff
• Anyone who has engaged in illegal or unethical activity
• Anyone who has made statements or actions against multicultural values
• Anyone who has made statements or actions against Treaties or Truth and Reconciliation
• People holding or seeking political office are not eligible
• Members of the judiciary who still hold office are not eligible
• Any past recipients of any MCoS or OTC award cannot be nominated for the same award.

Please provide information on the contributions the nominee has made to leadership for truth, reconciliation, and good relations in Saskatchewan. Please include organizations she/he/they has/have been involved with and describe the impact they have made in the community.

• In order to have your nominee assessed fairly please read the instruction in each section and include information on the candidate’s contributions.
• Applications must include an electronic photo (uploaded for online applications, or attached as a separate file for emailed applications).

• Awards will be presented on Saturday, November 21, 2026 at Wanuskewin Heritage Park in Saskatoon.
• We expect all nominees and nominators to be present at the event. A letter will be sent to each nominee and nominator.
• MCoS will be checking with all references
• All eligible nominees will be recognized and celebrated. Only selected recipients will receive awards.
